At QuickNeed.com, you will learn how to sew. We want to teach you how to create your dream products. We are passionate about DIY (do-it-yourself) craft projects, and love teaching others things that we have learnt through hard-work and trial-and-error. We spent all the hard work and time researching, experimenting and achieving successes and failures (*ahem* creative lessons to be learnt) so that you don’t have to do the same.
You might find yourself surrounded by people with great fashion sense and designer clothes, but be limited to a tight budget. Or you might just be interested in learning how to design and make your own clothing. After all, surely it won’t be that hard to make something nice like that! Well it can be, if you don’t know what you are doing.
Kat created QuickNeed in 2013 when she wanted to share her sewing creations. She began by teaching basic sewing tutorials aimed at beginners. As she completed various online courses (unfortunately there is no local place to study sewing professionally in her area), she shared her thoughts about whether they would be helpful to others also interested in the same course.
In 2015 QuickNeed launched our online store. We use this to sell you high-quality items that we have crafted ourselves, and a way to provide you free sewing patterns and downloadable resources to use with your own products.
QuickNeed had humble beginnings: Kat created the site when she was recovering from a major episode of depression and anxiety. Through the years QuickNeed has helped herself and various others through difficult and frustrating times. We have kept this beginning close to heart: with regular donations towards needy individuals and non-profit organisations. Each month we donate a minimum of 10% of any earnings towards a needy cause.
We do our best to be honest and unbiased when writing any content. Everyone has a different opinion and experience based upon their own needs, and we encourage you to let us know what you think. Of course we welcome feedback on all of our articles and look forward to hearing what you have to say. So please write comments so that we know what you are thinking!
If you have a specific review or tutorial that you want written, you can always contact us. We do our best to accommodate your needs. If you want to contribute to other’s learnings then why not contact us and tell us about yourself and your project idea.
QuickNeed.com uses affiliate links and advertising to help cover the costs of running the website. We do our best to only work with companies that we have personally enjoyed buying from and products that we found live up to our standards. None of these ads or affiliate links will cost you anything – in fact these advertising streams help us to keep our content free. If you wish to advertise with us you will undoubtedly benefit from QuickNeed’s positive image.
About Kat Skinner
Kat enjoys sharing tips and tricks of the trade that she has picked up through various experiences. She wants to help you make your own creations look more professional without the extra frustration.
In 2007 she graduated from Queensland University of technology, Australia, with a professional degree in Information Technology, majoring in Digital Environments. Even as a very little child, she enjoyed sitting in front of her computer. She always dreamed of having her very own website where she could connect with people from all around the world – and now she does. Through hundreds of hours of work she had solely designed QuickNeed’s look. With her background in IT she hand-crafted QuickNeed from the first line of code, up. We aren’t about to count how many lines of code, but trust us it is a lot…
Surrounded by people with good fashion sense and designer clothes, but limited to a tight budget, I thought “surely it wouldn’t be hard to make something nice like that”. That’s pretty much how I got started with sewing. I soon learnt that sewing wasn’t quite as straight forward and easy as I had first thought – but that didn’t stop me. I realised that just as I had to learn the basics, there are so many other people in the world who also have to learn the basics – and I decided to share what I learnt to help them.
About Yvette Skinner
As a child, my school taught basic sewing techniques. I was intrigued by the idea I could make my own personalised clothes. At university, money was short so I made my own clothes using my mother’s sewing machine. I was self taught so the clothes where pretty basic, though I loved the ability to combine different fabrics colours and textures personalising even the simplest skirt.
It wasn’t until I had children that I really got into sewing again. Before I left work I bought myself the most expensive sewing machine I could afford (and I’m still using it) and an overlocker. I made baby clothes, baby quilts, toys, bags, accessories and clothes for my husband and myself.
Some things turned out well, some projects where never finished and some finished only to disappear into the bin as they were so bad. I learnt a lot by trial and error. My children and my husband where my guinea pigs!
In recent years I’ve started quilting, making accessories and house soft furnishings. When I get time I still love making beautiful clothes, especially some of the lovely vintage inspired dresses.
