Feeling like pizza, and thinking it was a good idea to try somewhere new for a review, we decided to opt for Homeslice. I have always wanted to try huge New York pizza slices; its one of those weird life goals that I have on my bucket-list. Without actually attending New York for that authentic slice (’cause that would be expensive), this is the next best thing.
We bought a Half and Half Large (there is apparently only one size anyways) of the flavours The Original and Tri Cheese for a total of KD6 (AU$20.48) not including delivery.
The Delivery
So with a delivery fee of KD0.500 ($1.71), the pizza finally came one hour and twenty minutes after ordering. Kind of a long wait, considering it arrived at 7.40PM. We would have overlooked the wait, if the pizza hadn’t arrived cold. Like it had been left out for an hour.
We made a call to the office, who said they would ring us back. Twenty minutes later we still hadn’t heard back from them, so we rang them again. By this time we had eaten four of the eight slices. They asked why we would eat half the pizza and why we didn’t wait to hear back from them at 8.20PM. Considering your supposed to normally wait three hours between eating and sleeping, and I normally sleep at 9PM then yea… More said?
It was then that they asked us what we wanted to do, so we asked for a free pizza next time when ordering. They gratefully agreed. I think this is great customer service, and one that people should really appreciate.
The Food
The Size Of The Pizza
Don’t know how big the pizza actually is? The above picture includes the comparison of Homeslice with a 50 fils coin (about the equivalent in size of an Australian 20 cent coin).
I normally order thick pizza bases, and its notable that the Homeslice comes with quite a thin pizza base by default. The thin based does work well with the large slices however; maintaining its consistency so its easy to hold and eat at the same time. I’m curious to know if you ordered a pizza with plenty of toppings (or it was hot enough that your toppings hadn’t formed a solid chunk) whether the thin base proved comfortably flexible or not?
Also, the pizza base tasted quite flour-y. Whilst it doesn’t look it in the picture, the underside was completely covered in flour residue. Obviously from the cooking process (we don’t like the bread sticking to pan base after all), yet personally I found it a bit overbearing (I like some flours but sometimes it can be too much). I’d appreciate a little less flour next time if possible, please. My husband actually quite liked the flour – so its obvious it’s down to personal taste.
The Tri Cheese Flavour
The Tri-Cheese pizza is made of white sauce, mozzarella, ricotta cheese, & fontina cheese with fresh basil.
When we opened the box the basil leaves had wilted – so obviously at some stage our pizza had been hot (despite the temperature we got it at). This did not impact upon their taste. I personally found the Tri Cheese to be kind of tasteless. I expected some creamy cheese mixed alongside some strong pungent cheese that left a wonderful lingering taste in your mouth. I didn’t really get this; instead I found the pizza to be a bit bland… Imagine a Quatro Cheese with a sharp hit of gorgonzola/blue cheese for example…
I don’t know what the white sauce is supposed to be. I didn’t really notice any sauce – just cheese.
The Original
Consisting of a tomato sauce, mozzarella and oregano, I found the Original pizza to be largely dominated by the herbs and tomato base. However out of the two it was my most preferential flavour.
Overall
It was a great experience, one that I can (and did) photograph to then send back to my family in Australia (bucket-list item remember?). Having gone and done it, I’d have to say Homeslice isn’t something I would immediately jump to; I’d be more inclined to order from Papa Johns first for both taste and price. However, if you’re like my family who eat only one or two slices, Homeslice will work well for you. You can order on a slice-per-slice basis or Half and Half or even as a whole. I would recommend Homeslice to try even if just for the experience (and we will definitely be ordering a second time).

Great review
I get the same service with Dominos in Australia (ie late & cold) which is why I always pick up.
The Pizza looks huge and would last me ages. The kids though would demolish it very quickly.
